"What belongs together grows together!" – Two strong companies become one!

Hörzentrum and HörTech merge to form Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH

For years, the companies HörTech gGmbH and Hörzentrum Oldenburg GmbH worked closely together in the House of Hearing and today they are merging into one company.

Both companies can look back on an exciting success story: HörTech gGmbH is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has developed numerous medical products and successfully completed many research projects.
The Hörzentrum Oldenburg is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and is a world leader in the field of evidence-based evaluation studies.

"The merger combines the strengths of both companies," explains Sebastian Quirandt, Managing Director of both companies. "We expect to gain enormous potential by combining the experience from the different areas. Specifically, for example, the knowledge gained from more than 20 years of hearing aid counselling for hearing-impaired people should flow much more strongly into the development of diagnostic procedures."

The new Hörzentrum Oldenburg stands for a unique combination of interdisciplinary, demand-oriented hearing research, customer-oriented services and market-oriented product developments.

The new company is taking a big step with the merger, as it also wants to make itself independent of financial support from the state of Lower Saxony by 2025.
"Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH is the first regional research institute in Lower Saxony to take this path," says Lower Saxony's Science Minister Björn Thümler. "The hearing research in Oldenburg around Prof. Birger Kollmeier and its various institutions have succeeded in establishing a unique research and transfer landscape with worldwide recognition. I look forward to the innovative power of the now united Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH and am sure that the success story will continue."

The background to this is that the company is so convinced of its future direction and its own products and services that it can operate sustainably on the market like a commercial enterprise.
"We are very grateful to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture for its many years of sustained funding, which is what makes application-oriented cutting-edge research possible in the first place for research institutes in our state. On this basis, we have been able to develop our business model to such an extent that we want to fully exploit our potential in the future, independent of this funding," says Prof. Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier, scientific director of the hearing centre, explaining the unusual step taken by the non-profit company.
When the companies merge, existing organisational structures will be retained, so there will be no job cuts. "Our team is fully behind this step and we are - as before - the contact partner on the subject of hearing in the region and beyond," Quirandt summarises once again.

About Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH

The success story of Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH is the result of sustainable build-up and development work by two companies that have always been strongly connected with each other and finally formally merged legally into one company in 2021. The merger has made it possible to combine the strengths of both companies. Namely, the clinical application with patients and test persons on the one hand and the transfer-oriented research & (further) development with direct connection to basic research on the other. The result was an affiliated institute for independent and interdisciplinary, demand-oriented research, customer-oriented services and market-oriented product developments.
