Two strong companies become one!
The success story of Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH is the result of sustained build-up and development work by two companies that have always been strongly linked and finally formally merged legally into one in 2021. The merger has succeeded in combining the strengths of both companies. Namely, the clinical application with patients and test persons on the one hand and the transfer-oriented research & (further) development with direct connection to basic research on the other hand. The result is an affiliated institute for independent and interdisciplinary, demand-oriented research, customer-oriented services and market-oriented product development.
Our origin - Hörzentrum Oldenburg GmbH
Hörzentrum Oldenburg GmbH was founded in 1996 by the physicist and physician Prof. Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier (Carl-von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg), the phoniatrist and ENT specialist Dr. Rüdiger Schönfeld, the physicist Prof. Dr. Hohmann, the physicist Stephan Albani, as well as the businessman Hans-Peter Bessmann and the Evangelical Hospital Oldenburg in order to close the gap between basic university research and clinical practice.
The Hörzentrum Oldenburg GmbH started its work with four employees in an office container on the campus of the university. Initially, primarily projects in the field of hearing aid field tests or general research and development projects were realized. Industry prototypes were extensively tested with hearing impaired people under controlled but realistic conditions. This provided the industry with valuable, independent information on the performance and potential improvements of their new hearing aids. The information was always exclusive to the client, but was also published on request on various occasions, so that an unofficial brand began to develop: "tested by Hörzentrum Oldenburg". As early as 1998, the company recognized the great need for independent advice and opened the "Medical and Audiological Care" division with the two services "Hearing Aid Consultation" and "Special Audiological Consultation" in cooperation with the Oldenburg Protestant Hospital.
Always non-profit - HörTech gGmbH
HörTech gGmbH was founded in 2001 as a competence center for hearing aid system technology by the Hörzentrum Oldenburg and the University of Oldenburg. The purpose of the institute, which originally emerged from a nationwide competition organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, was to promote science and research and to gain new methods and knowledge. Since its foundation, HörTech has successfully developed numerous innovative methods into medical products and brought them to market. Through a multitude of research projects, the employees have succeeded in advancing relevant basic research for the improvement of hearing aid technology, as well as in better adapting hearing aids to the individual needs of their wearers.
