Python Software Developer for Cross-Platform Apps

Do you want to develop modern apps for hearing impaired people and researchers in accordance with our mission statement "We help people to hear better" and work creatively on challenging projects?

The Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH is looking for a qualified

Python Software Developer for Cross-Platform Apps

as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to 2 years. After that, we are looking for a long-term cooperation. The position is remunerated in accordance with TV-L; depending on qualifications, a grouping up to E13 is possible.

At Hörzentrum Oldenburg, we lead numerous national and international projects for the research and development of (software) solutions in the field of hearing healthcare. This project is about developing future-proof solutions that give hearing-impaired people the opportunity to directly influence their hearing problems: For this purpose, we develop cross-platform applications, e.g. mobile apps, that enable people with hearing loss to diagnose their own hearing problems in everyday life and improve the fitting of their own hearing aids.

We are looking for you:

You like to translate complex issues into structured, clear software. You are interested in scientific topics and you are curious about how we can help people with hearing aids together. You will work in a project team in which you have a lot of creative freedom to structure your work and implement the goals. You will make constructive suggestions for finding solutions and for the design of the software and implement them in direct exchange with users and the project manager. You always think beyond your own field of activity for the whole project and can also think outside the box to find a solution. Within the project, you work closely with our scientists, software developers and potential users and can communicate with them at eye level.

Your tasks:

  • You develop cross-platform applications in Python/Kivy. This includes the measurement framework as well as the graphical user interfaces.
  • You develop unit tests for the applications.
  • You maintain the continuous integration pipeline for our cross-platform projects.
  • You use JSON interfaces to exchange data between libraries and application code.
  • You continuously coordinate with colleagues from other research and software projects with which this project closely collaborates.

Your background:

  • University degree in computer science or a related subject. The field of study of the degree is not so crucial, more important for us is a solution-oriented approach and experience with software development.
  • Experience with software development processes: Implementations, code review, unit tests
  • Experience in working with software teams; esp. in small teams: agile working.
  • DevOps knowledge: Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins), version management (e.g. Git), project management (e.g. Jira or Phabricator).
  • You have good English language skills and German language skills or the willingness to learn German
  • Willingness to get involved in existing solutions and possibly pre-existing codebases (e.g. MATLAB, C++, ... - no problem if MATLAB doesn't mean anything to you yet)

Ideally, you already have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience with software product development for end customers
  • iOS/Android development skills
  • Software development in Python
  • Kivy Framework
  • Jira and/or Confluence

How we work and what we offer:

  • Interesting projects in a company that wants to improve the lives of people with hearing loss.
  • Salary based on the collective agreement of the federal states (TV-L). Depending on qualifications, grouping up to E13 is possible.
  • 30 days' holiday
  • Flexible working hours, including flexible part-time models
  • Flexible use of home office (up to 60%, currently we are in home office for longer periods anyway due to corona)
  • Space for informal exchange, also in corona times, e.g. through digital coffee breaks
  • Offices with typically 2-3 workstations
  • Freedom to design your own workflow
  • Support for personal development (further training, individual personal development meetings)
  • Company-internal confidants
  • Numerous opportunities to contribute and implement your own ideas, for example, helping to shape current and future projects.
  • Optional Hansefit membership

Interviews will start as soon as possible until the position is filled. Send your complete application documents by email - preferably connected with links to your publicly visible code repositories - to Elke Hemken, Hörzentrum Oldenburg gGmbH, karriere@hz-ol.de by 15 January 2022.
