Sense-Cog
Seven out of ten Europeans over 65 live with impairments of their sense of hearing or sight, and over two-thirds suffer from depression or dementia. Often these problems occur together, and the effect of a double or triple impairment is far more severe than that of any single condition. The incidence of combined sensory and cognitive impairment is very high, but not yet very well understood.
The EU project SENSE-Cog aims to study exactly this effect. Based on these studies, tools and support for the home are to be developed that will noticeably increase the quality of life of those affected. The optimization of budgets in the health and social sector and the optimal allocation of resources throughout Europe are also in focus.
